How to make Corned Beef and Cabbage. Heat oil on medium heat in a large, heavy bottomed pot. Sauté onions for about five minutes. Season onions with salt, pepper, and herbs.

  1. In 5- or 6-quart crock pot, layer onions, beef, carrots, potatoes, thyme and cabbage. Pour broth over cabbage then sprinkle mustard on top.
  2. Cover and cook until meat and veggies are fork tender, 4-5 hours on high or 8-10 hours on low.
  3. Transfer beef to platter and cut into 16 slices. Place veggies around meat.
